Worship to Destroy?

This is the sacred ice Linga of Amarnath. Every year, millions of visitors take a perilous journey travelling on horsebacks and crossing glaciers to visit this sacred spot. This spot is sacred to many Hindus. But, the increasing number of pilgrims to the place is serving a danger for the delicate ice clad mountain environment. The body heat of millions of people, fuel pollution from nearly 300 helicopters frequenting the area every day and the plastic wastes as well as human waste everything will contaminate the pristine origin of the mighty Indus river in a few years, beyond recovery if the government does not take any action to clean the area now.
